Our annual Parish Finance Meeting will be held after Mass on Sunday, 4th February.  This is an opportunity to examine the accounts for the last year and the state of our finances and to review our expenditure during the coming year.

Last November, it was reported that we were hoping to restore the Calvary War Memorial in the cemetery before the end of the centenary of the First World War.  The lowest quote came in at just over £22,000.  An application for a grant has been made to the War Memorials Trust and we should hear by mid-February if it has been successful.

Just before Christmas a report on the three stained glass windows in the three lancet windows at the west end of the church revealed that they will need to be removed and completely re-leaded at a cost of £6,750.  To this must be added an extra £3,000 for the scaffolding both on the inside and the outside of the church to allow access.

In addition, 2018 will see the parish (via the diocese) pursuing a legal case against the past and possibly the present developers of the convent site, which is bound to have financial ramifications.

So, the coming year is going to be difficult and challenging, and we must consider how we are going to pay for everything in addition to our normal items of expenditure.  More to follow!
